I was a restless little girl during Fallas. Between firecrackers, sack races, and costumes, I loved those days. The day of the offering was the most exciting, a long walk through unfamiliar places among thousands of girls dressed as princesses. My flowers never reached the Virgin; they kept getting lost along the way as we played. My mother was also exasperated because I loved rolling around on the ground in my silk dress, and of course, when I got home, something was always missing—a brooch, a hair comb… But yes, I had a wonderful time during Fallas.
Perhaps that's what inspires me when I paint modern Fallas queens, flow Fallas queens, or ninja Fallas queens. It's an evocation of childhood, painted with playfulness and fun. They are mischievous, not bound by rules, and it is precisely that freedom that makes them so beautiful.

Modern Fallas is a painting project, which began in 2019 and has been evolving to this day, created by the Valencian painter Carmen Ibarra Viguer.

This project has three distinct series: modern falleras, ninja falleras, and flowfalleras.

The technique used is mixed media, combining India ink and watercolor on paper. This blend of techniques stems from creative freedom, as it doesn't adhere to any orthodox method but rather combines different resources.

The Falleras Ninja and Flow Falleras are now available for purchase. These are original, small-format works, 15 x 15 cm, printed on handmade cotton paper. You can see them in person at Graciagrafica, Calle Borrull 14, Valencia, until March 20th.,

Modern Fallas women represent free women, not bound by social norms. Their cultural constraints, represented by their traditional clothing, do not impede this freedom; on the contrary, the dresses are flowing and allow them to soar. They are rebellious, warriors, active, and diverse.

Modern Fallas queens invite all women to break free from the ingrained feminine stereotype and be themselves: authentic and free.

Below are some of the Falleras that are no longer available as original artwork; however, if you like any of them, they can be reproduced using the Giclée technique on Hahnemühle 100% cotton paper. Please contact me if you are interested in any of the following Falleras as prints.

And yes, there are many falleras, and that's because they inspire me and I really enjoy painting them!

I'm late to this workshop; I just read about it, but if you do another one, I'd love to attend. I did a Bachelor of Fine Arts course many years ago, and we didn't even touch on watercolor. It's my weak point, although I do some on my own from time to time.
