Vaginas Amapolas was born as a revelation. It reflects the confusion that surfaces in contemporary society, at a time when concepts seem to merge and lose their clarity of meaning. Between eroticism and pornography, intimacy and exhibitionism.
This series is a compulsive response, a provocation, insulting the patriarchy, the bureaucracy, and political correctness. Because sex has a double standard: it's what current society demands, but at the same time, through a hidden gaze, it conceals and rejects it.
It is a double claim: feminist because of the need to break away from heteropatriarchal forms and to provoke, and at the same time feminine, because it is carried out subtly through beauty.
Vaginas Poppies is also an erotic work. Even though it was born from a great accumulation of negative energies imposed by the system, the one who paints it is my female self, the one who discovers and feels, from her femininity, painting poppies.
It is through watercolors and India ink, splashes of spring water and color, that it flows randomly to achieve its natural beauty. Red represents the ardent and passionate because that is the color of the womb and menstruation, as well as gestation.
Vaginas Amapolas is a polyptych of 25 small handmade papers, painted with watercolor and India ink, each 15 x 15 centimeters, arranged equidistantly in five rows of five, with an approximate separation of the same number of centimeters between them, resulting in a work in its entirety of approximately 100 x 100 centimeters. Year 2016.
